I had a great time at Georgia Southern University for the SEAMUS conference. That stands for Society for ElectroAcoustic Music in the United States. My piece In Metal was played in glorious 8-channel surround* in a local black-box theater. (*In this discipline, the setup is actually called an 8-channel Ring.)
The image you see is a 16-channel “Wave Field” array from a different presentation. This was used to demonstrate the incredible sound spatialization possibilities of Wave Field synthesis. The entire conference was full of mind-blowing technology such as this.
